PMR - Information for Authors
Six Reasons to Publish in Platinum Metals Review
1. Platinum Metals Review (PMR) is a quarterly journal of the latest research on the platinum group metals and of developments in their application in industry. As the sole journal focused on platinum group metals, PMR is read by chemists, engineers, geologists, materials scientists, metallurgists and physicists in both industry and academia.
2. PMR has a distinguished history of high-quality publishing since 1957. PMR papers are peer reviewed to full academic standards, maintaining the high reputation of the journal in the scientific community.
3. PMR’s broad coverage includes papers on the latest advances, reviews of research, conferences and books, and highlights of patents and scientific literature. Published in full colour, PMR is both informative and visually attractive.
4. PMR is published free of charge as webpages and PDF files on the searchable website: http://www.platinummetalsreview.com/. It also appears here on Platinum today: http://www.platinum.matthey.com/publications/pmr.html and IngentaConnect (the comprehensive collection of academic and professional research articles online): http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/matthey/pmr.
5. PMR’s web presence promotes wide readership. PMR papers are extensively cited, promoting exploitation of the science and technology of the platinum group metals. This significantly raises the author’s international profile – as does the ‘about the author’ section.
6. PMR papers are ranked highly with popular search engines such as Google and Google Scholar. PMR authors attract attention from researchers outside their usual field – aiding networking.
Instructions to Authors
Submission of a manuscript to Platinum Metals Review implies that it has not been published previously and is not being simultaneously considered for publication elsewhere. The author must be in a position to transfer the copyright to Platinum Metals Review which will ensure the widest possible dissemination. The timing of publication of accepted papers is determined by the Editor, having regard to all relevant factors, including availability of resources and the balance of contents of the forthcoming issue.
Investigations which have reached a stage resulting in a better understanding of, or improvements to, an existing process or which suggest a possible new application for the platinum group metals, are likely to be suitable material for publication in Platinum Metals Review. Accounts of new work involving the platinum metals, supplemented by reference to the current state of research and reviewing prior work, are also of interest to the readers of this journal. Potential authors are encouraged to study a number of back issues of Platinum Metals Review before beginning preparation of a paper. Other journals may be more appropriate for the primary publication of detailed academic results.
Contributions appearing in Platinum Metals Review are invited papers, non-invited papers, conference reviews, book reviews and short items describing specific work. Papers are sent to referees, active in the field in question, who are asked to comment on scientific matters and the suitability of the manuscript for Platinum Metals Review. In all cases the final decision to publish rests with the Editor.
It may be necessary to edit manuscripts to achieve uniformity of style or to reduce the length of a contribution, but it remains the responsibility of authors to ensure that the contents of a paper are accurate in all respects.
Preparation of Manuscripts
Each paper should begin with a synopsis of the work. This is followed by the body of the paper, beginning with a general introduction, a short review of the topic and reasons for the research. Detailed experimental procedures are not usually included, unless essential. The paper should be suitably illustrated with Figures and Tables, and end with a summary or conclusion pointing out the relevance of the work and its relationship to future research and any industrial applications. The paper must be fully supported by references.
For consistency of presentation, the figures and line drawings in Platinum Metals Review may be redrawn. If a diagram is very complex, please enclose an additional unlettered copy. Figures are usually reduced in size to an appropriate size to suit the journal's format. We publish photographs in both colour and black and white. Photographs are best but slides are acceptable.
The manuscript should be sent by email to the Editor (editorpmr@matthey.com). We prefer manuscripts to be in as simple a form as possible, with only plain, bold and italic fonts. This will facilitate speedy and accurate entry into our systems, rapid editing and transfer into our publishing software, QuarkXPress.
We will email to authors the edited version of their papers for their comments, and also email the page makeup versions of the manuscript for the final approval of the authors.
Author should provide a short statement of their current job title, major research interests and supply their photographs, if they wish, for The Authors section.
After publication authors usually receive 15 to 20 offprints of their papers. Authors may request additional offprints. A PDF file of the paper will also be supplied.
