Zimplats sees increased platinum production 1st November 2006
Zimbabwean platinum miner Zimplats has announced an increased in its platinum production.
The company has announced a 15 per cent increase in opencast ore production for the three months to September 30th, compared with the previous quarter.
A reorientation at the firm's Ngezi platinum mine saw an increase in the total volume mined, reaching 1.9 million ounces compared to 1.4 million ounces in the previous three month period.
Furthermore, ore head grade was four per cent above that seen in the previous quarter, while the firm also opened a new crusher at the plant during the period.
Increased production was matched by a growth in sales for Zimplats, resulting in a boost in the company's revenue and operating profits.
Zimplats saw sales of both platinum and palladium increase during the quarter, while precious metal prices also rose to help the company post an eight per cent rise in revenue to $56.3 million.
