Zimplats considering ZSE listing 5th January 2006
Zimbabwean mining company Zimplats has revealed that it is looking into the possibility of listing on the Zimbabwean Stock Exchange (ZSE).
According to Jack Murehwa, a spokesperson for the company, Zimplats chiefs are currently looking at the potential impact of listing on the ZSE before making any final decision.
"We need to closely follow the necessary regulations before we go public," he told the Zimbabwe Chronicle.
Zimplats is currently looking to increase its capital base in Zimbabwe and sees a listing as a possible way of realising that ambition.
Mr Murehwa explained: "Our plan is to ensure that the local investing public also have access to our shares and in return we increase our investment portfolios."
The company revealed last month that it was in talks with the Zimbabwean government about the possibility of selling some of its land to allow a state organisation to carry out its own platinum mining operations.
Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has long seen the platinum industry as a potential saviour for his country's ailing economy and is believed to consider a joint venture with Zimplats as an opportunity to maintain control over the profits from the platinum production.
