YKCC selects LP Oxo Selector rhodium catalyst technology for new China facility 16th February 2011
China-based Yankuang Cathay Acetyl Chemical Company (YKCC) will use a rhodium-based catalyst technology developed by a Johnson Matthey company at its new Shandong facility.
YKCC has been granted a licence to use the LP Oxo Selector 10 Technology at its new plant in Mushi Town, where the company is growing its butyl acetate capacity.
The rhodium-based catalyst technology was developed by Johnson's Davy Process Technology Ltd and the Dow Chemical Company, offering significant economic and technical advantages over alternative cobalt-catalysed processes.
YKCC will use the licence to create a plant with a capacity of 136 kta of normal butanol, which will be used almost solely in the production of butyl acetate.
LP Oxo Licensing business director Bruce Lipsitt explained: "We are pleased to add YKCC to our expanding family of LP Oxo Technology licensees in China, and we are confident that YKCC's drive will enable them to move quickly toward start-up and a very successful long-term operation."
The processing technology has been used in 44 projects at 32 plants across 15 countries to date, most recently by the Tianjin Soda and Lihuayi Group for new facilities that came on stream in 2010 in China.
