World's largest LCD TV unveiled 7th December 2005
As LCD TV sales continue to rise, so do the sizes of screen available to consumers.
Sharp Electronics of Canada has announced the introduction of a 65-inch AQUOS model, which the company claims is the world's largest LCD television screen in production.
The model boasts 1080p (1,920 x 1,080) HDTV resolution, a widescreen16:9 aspect ratio and a 4,000:1 dynamic contrast.
It also uses special technology to minimise glare and has 170-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles.
Carmine Cinerari, vice president, of the company said: "LCD televisions were traditionally thought of as being limited to smaller screen sizes, however, today's announcement shatters all these misconceptions."
The LC65D90U will go on sale in Canada this month for around £12,000.
According to a study by market research company DisplaySearch, global LCD TV shipments hit a record high at 5.5 million units this year, up 156 per cent from 2004.
LCD companies have continued to expand in recent months, despite fears of a glut in the market next year, but if this large screen takes off demand for LCD screens could continue to grow.
