The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) international jewellery fair, International Jewellery Dubai 2003 (IJD 2003), has got underway with organisers claiming it is the largest event of its kind in the world.

The ninth annual show will run until April 26th and has attracted international suppliers from all over the world.

Both trade buyers and affluent private buyers are expected to do business, with participation already approaching record levels.

'Dubai is a leading player in the gems and jewellery market and shows like IJD go a long way into making the city the focus of the industry in the region,' commented DWTC director general Mubarak bin Fahad.

The exhibition has attracted strong interest from industry representatives from all over the world, with over 225 exhibitors from countries including France, Germany, India, Korea, and the United Kingdom attending.
