Wesizwe Platinum looking to consolidate in SA 14th July 2011
Wesizwe Platinum has said it is planning to consolidate its position with mines close to its South African (SA) project, it has been reported.
The company's joint acting chief executive officer Arthur Mashiatshidi said the miner was in position to look at combinations after it sold a stake to China's Jinchuan Group this year, Bloomberg reports.
Wesizwe put plans for its Frischgewaagd-Ledig mine on hold in 2008 when platinum prices fell.
Following the deal with Jinchuan, the firm is now in a position to develop the mine, which will hit full production of 350,000 4E platinum group metals (pgms) by October 2021.
It also plans to develop a 400,000 t/m concentrator with Canadian firm Platinum Group Metals Ltd.
Announcing the official launch date of the mine in June, Dawn Mokhobo, chairman of Wesizwe, said: "The board and management team are committed to ensuring that shareholders realise full value from one of the best undeveloped pgm assets in the country through the responsible and professional development of a world-class mining operation."
