Wesizwe plans JSE listing 22nd September 2005

Private platinum exploration group Wesizwe has unveiled plans to list on the JSE by the end of the year.

Wesizwe was chosen earlier this year by the Bakubung ba Ratheo people as the investment vehicle for the group under the black economic empowerment (BEE) programme and the move to list on the JSE will improve the Bakubung's position.

Chief executive Michael Solomon has now restated the company's position, after the group had originally suggested in March that any listing could be as far as 15 months away.

He explained that the company is now pleased with the way its exploration programme has been developing, telling Business Report: "We're very happy with where we are."

The move will give the company more scope to raise capital, which Mr Solomon revealed could be used during the first quarter of next year as the company looks to boost its exploration initiatives.

If the listing goes ahead, Wesizwe would be the only platinum exploration group in South Africa to be listed on the JSE.

Mike Schroder, the head of resources for Old Mutual Asset Managers, told Business Report that investors in the region would have many opportunities to put money into resource stocks once Wesizwe becomes a listed company.
