VW goes green 1st November 2006
Volkswagen has been working hard to improve its green credentials and develop more innovative technologies which will reduce emissions from its vehicles.
The company has announced the establishment of a professorship at Westfalische Wilhelms-Universitat in Munster, Germany, for the development of batteries in hybrid vehicles.
Another area in which the company is working hard is the continued development of fuel cell vehicles.
Volkswagen is set to launch its new high temperature fuel cell, which could allow for improved performance in vehicles.
The new fuel cell is able to function at much higher temperatures than low temperature versions, meaning that it is far more durable, explains Volkswagen, making it more effective and with a longer life expectancy in vehicles.
Professor Jurgen Leohold, head of Volkswagen corporate research, explained that the new type of fuel cell "will make the overall system in the car lighter, more compact, stable and cheaper".
