VW adds anti-soot filter to diesel-powered SUV 31st December 2004
Volkswagen has announced that it has added a new diesel particle filter to its Touareg V10 TDI sports-utility vehicle.
The car maker added the new feature to the 313PS diesel in response to consumer pressure and in order to comply with imminent EU IV diesel exhaust emission levels.
The particle filter reportedly adds to the power, performance and fuel economy of the Touareg V10 automatic and Volkswagen claims the vehicle now has an average consumption of 12.8 litres 100/km.
VW had previously announced plans to phase in particle filters for all its diesel-powered passenger cars including some that already better the tough EU IV diesel emission levels.
Volkswagen's decision to fit a particle filter to its top diesel SUV follows the decision to also equip its faster selling Touareg V6 TDi diesel with such a filter.
The announcement by VW Group boss Bernd Pischetsrieder, while not giving precise timing indications, that all of Volkswagen Group's diesel-powered cars will eventually be offered with particle filters, is expected to prove a massive boost to the growing diesel particle filters market.
