Vauxhall scoops fuel cell award 24th November 2004

General Motors vehicle brand Vauxhall has been recognized for its progress in the field of fuel cell technology development at the Autocar awards.

Vauxhall's innovative Trixx concept car landed first place in the concept car category at the vehicular equivalent of the Oscars, wowing judges with its various practical and futuristic features which include an inflatable rear seat and pantograph doors.

The automotive manufacturer was also handed the technology award for its work on developing mobile fuel cell technology for integration into commercial road vehicles.

Arriving from the United States to collect the technology award, GM's vice president for research, development and planning, Larry Burns, hailed the achievement.

"It's fantastic to be able to help drive change in our industry, and GM is thrilled to receive this technology award from Autocar for our fuel cell developments!"

Fuel cell development has become an increasingly important concern for GM Motors, the world's biggest automotive firm.

Already this year, GM has showcased its Zafira-based Hydrogen 3 in the Fuel Cell Marathon, driving 10,000 km in just 38 days across Europe from Nordcapp to Lisbon.
