US auto sales dip 2nd May 2007
April saw sales of vehicles across the US suffer a fall as continued rises in gasoline prices are having a negative impact on most automakers.
Overall, auto sales in the US fell by 7.6 per cent over the course of April compared to the same month in 2005, although some of the dip can be put down to fewer trading days, reports Autodata.
Ford suffered the biggest losses during the month, with sales falling by 13 per cent compared to the previous year, while General Motors also suffered a dip in sales of cars and light trucks of 9.5 per cent.
Toyota, which has managed to put in strong returns in the slowing market over recent years, also saw sales decline, announcing a drop of 4.3 per cent to 210,457 vehicles. That represented the company's first year-on-year slide in sales since May 2005.
However, DaimlerChrysler managed to buck the trend of its rivals, posting an overall one per cent increase in sales, thanks mainly to a two per cent growth in its Chrysler division.
