US Army plans further fuel cell development 23rd January 2007

The US Army has put in another order for the development of a fuel cell.

Germany's SFC Smart Fuel Cell has been chosen to develop a 250 Watt fuel cell that will supply the US Army's Operational Test Command (OTC).

The decision to use a fuel cell at the OTC demonstrates the increasing confidence that the US is placing in the technology, as the OTC's systems must operate seamlessly. This highlights the growing reliability of fuel cells that they are being developed for use in critical systems.

"We feel SFC will provide a product which meets the requirements and schedule of OTC and best value for the US Army," commented SFC's chief executive, Dr Peter Podesser.

This latest announcement demonstrates the increasing importance of fuel cell technology to the US defence strategy and shows that the technology is likely to be a major force in the sector in the future.
