Toyota bucks sales trend 2nd December 2005
Toyota has announced rising sales in the US, thanks largely to the popularity of its new hybrid vehicle.
While sales across the US have struggled in recent months, it was a good November for Toyota, which saw a 5.6 per cent rise in overall sales and a major increase in interest in its hybrid car.
Sales of the Prius hybrid jumped during November by 29.1 per cent, as the demand for fuel efficient technology continued to grow.
However, some of the world's largest car manufacturers have stated that they are still struggling to sell their products.
General Motors (GM), Ford and DaimlerChrysler all revealed they had had a dismal November, reporting a drop in US sales.
The biggest losers were sports utility vehicles (SUVs), the companies announced, which is likely to be mainly down to the spiralling oil prices, as these vehicles tend to be less fuel efficient.
GM announced an 11 per cent fall in US sales, while Ford posted an 18 per cent dip, representing the company's third successive month of declining sales.
