Toy car introduces fuel cell vehicle 25th July 2006

A Chinese company has launched a new toy car that works using hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The tiny car has been developed to showcase hydrogen fuel cell technology that is being developed for the mass consumer market.

Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies, based in Shanghai, will start selling the toy car, which comes with a little solar-powered refuelling station, this month.

The 15cm long H-Racer toy is an attempt to work towards commercial viability of full-scale hydrogen fuel cell technology and overcome the current struggles with cost and technology.

The remote-controlled car will retail in the United States for $80 and runs for around four minutes on a full tank of hydrogen.

Horizon founder Taras Wankewycz, said: "Public awareness and education are the first steps toward commercialisation. We want to make sure this technology gets adapted globally."
