Takeover speculation surrounds Lonmin 13th November 2006
Platinum miner Lonmin has been at the centre of fresh rumours over a potential takeover bid.
The company has seen its shares rise considerably on the back of the news, although sources close to the company have denied that the firm is set to be approached.
One person close to the company told Reuters that they were unaware of any bid being on the table, but Lonmin itself has refused to comment on the speculation.
The platinum mining firm announced in February that it was in preliminary talks with a company about a potential buyout, but those discussions petered out later in the year.
Among those thought to be in the frame for an approach last time around was gold miner, Gold Fields, which has stated recently that it is still considering its options in the platinum market and on the lookout for a suitable opportunity to get into the platinum group metal sector.
Lonmin is due to announce its annual earnings later this week.
