Sylvania Resources Limited commissions Lannex pgm recovery plant 24th March 2009
Sylvania Resources Limited has announced the commissioning of its Lannex tailings dump classification section and pgm recovery plant in the eastern Bushveld.
Adverse weather conditions and a lack of concrete availability had led to a commissioning delay, although this was confined to a single month and the project will still be completed on budget.
Lannex is one of four Sylvania Resources near-production assets and is the first of this grouping to start production.
While it is currently at ramping-up stage, at full capacity Lannex is expected to produce 25,000 oz every year, leading to the doubling of Sylvania Resources' current output.
In the meantime, 2,100 pgm oz is expected to be produced every week by the end of June this year.
According to Sylvania CEO Terry McConnachie, the latest milestone is indicative of the company's ability to thrive within the confines of a challenging economic climate.
"The commissioning of Lannex demonstrates Sylvania's ability to grow pgm production volumes while maintaining our well established low-cost and low-risk production profile and remaining profitable in what remain tough global market conditions," he commented.
Sylvania is partnered with Ehlobo Metals as part of South Africa's Black Economic Empowerment policy.
