Sylvania Platinum has reported production in the first quarter of 2011 hit an all-time high, with output of 10,768 oz achieved in the three months to the end of March.

This exceeded the firm's targeted expectations of 10,500 oz for its five platinum group metals production operations, at Millsell, Steelpoort, Lannex, Mooinooi and Doornbosch.

In a statement, Sylvania said the quarterly figure was 996 oz higher than the previous three-month period and supports the annual outlook of 40,000 oz for the financial year to June 2011.

Sylvania reported it has progressed well with its near surface exploration programme at its new Volspruit Mine.

In addition, the firm said exploration work at the Northern Limb assets is "advancing well".

Commenting on the figures, Nigel Trevarthen, deputy chief executive officer, said: "We are pleased that all of Sylvania's five operating plants have shown improvements and continue to outperform targeted production rates."
