Sylvania Resources and Jubilee Platinum confirmed today (26th November) that they have secured a smelting and refining agreement for the Volspruit mine.

The two companies will now press ahead with a study into the design and construction of a smelting and refinery complex at the proposed facility, which is being developed by Sylvania.

Under the terms of the arrangement, the mine project will be advanced by Sylvania, with the joint venture responsible for overseeing the smelting and refining improvements.

The partners believe that combining the ConRoast process with a DC arc smelter will allow the treatment of platinum and other base metals which cannot be dealt with by alternative methods.

In addition, a scoping study will be carried out by 28th February 2011, with the possible creation of a new company then paving the way for conducting a £180,000 pre-feasibility study by 31st May 3011.

If both companies are satisfied with the outcomes of these two initiatives, they will then invest about £445,000 to complete a bankable study by 31st January 2012.

Sylvania Resources has a number of tailings retreatment operations and shallow mining exploration interests located on the pgm-rich Bushveld Igneous Complex in South Africa.
