Sun Mining hires former Impala Platinum executive as CEO 9th January 2008

Former Impala Platinum executive Keith Rumble has joined Sun Mining as the resources company's new Chief Executive Officer, it has been reported.

Mr Rumble takes up the role having previously occupied the position of Chief Executive Officer at Impala Platinum for five years.

Sun Mining, which is involved in a number of commodities including platinum group metals (pgms), has also hired Barrick Gold Managing Director Warrick Morley-Jepson as Chief Operating Officer.

The appointments were announced by Mr Morley-Jepson in a telephone interview with Mining Weekly Online.

Mr Morley-Jepson also confirmed that work on the company's pgms projects in South Africa remain in the early exploration stages but did not say when these are projected to commence operations.

Barrick Gold, which recently announced it had completed a prefeasibility study on its first pgms project in South Africa, appointed Eugene O'Brien to serve as acting South Africa Managing Director following Mr Morley-Jepson's departure in November.
