Storage demand 'driving growth' 11th January 2007
The world's largest manufacturer of disk drives has stated that increasing growth in the industry is being driven by strong demand for storage facilities.
Seagate Technology has said that people are now looking to store more information in more complex formats, such as audio files, movies and photos, meaning that there is a need for greater storage on disk drives.
Speaking to Reuters, Seagate's Chief Operating Officer, Dave Wickersham, commented: "The consumer space is where we're feeling the growth for storage."
Seagate has also revealed that it is launching a new range of backup drives to automatically back up data while people are downloading information onto the computer. The demand for backup drives is also expected to accelerate in the months ahead as more people recognise the need to keep their data safe.
