Stillwater hopeful of reopening mine 8th September 2006
Stillwater Mining has announced that it is aiming to reopen its East Boulder mine late on Friday or early on Saturday.
Operations at the facility have been on hold since September 3rd, due to smoke from a wildfire which has made access roads impassable.
However, a statement released by the company has revealed that the smoke from the still uncontrolled fire is subsiding and as such normal operations should be able to be resumed by the weekend.
Thursday afternoon saw the return of a skeleton crew of just 28 people returning to the site and these employees have been preparing the mine for reopening, Stillwater executive vice president Steve Lang told Mineweb.
However, Mr Lang would not be drawn on any losses felt by the firm, saying only that these are still to be determined.
