Senators seek to tighten clean air controls 7th April 2003
Two north western American senators have begun a bi-partisan campaign to try to force the Bush administration to take further action on the control of pollution as part of its 'Clear Skies' program.
Senator Joe Lieberman (Democrat) and Senator John McCain (Republican) have launched major legislation to try to combat global warming by setting a cap on the emission of greenhouse gases in the United States.
'I don't expect this Bush administration to embrace what we're proposing, but John and I are serious about it and hope to get it to a vote,' Senator Lieberman told the Seattle Post.
Lieberman and McCain have successfully worked together on a number of issues before, and both now say they are committed to pursuing a more radical environmental line than the President.
