Self-lubricating platinum-catalysed solid silicones unveiled 29th October 2007

A German chemical company is to unveil a new line of self-lubricating platinum-catalysed solid silicones at a plastics expo.

Munich-based Wacker will debut the material at the K 2007 show, which is open to visitors now and is due to close October 31st.

The Elastotosil plus 4800 solid silicones have been specifically designed for cable-brushing applications and can withstand exacting cable-brushing tests in which elastomers without tearing or losing seal quality, the company claims.

Furthermore, the new 4800 also boasts the advantages that it is more resistant to injection moulding and can be moulded and demoulded faster and easier than existing materials, according to Wacker.

Dr Christoph von Plotho, President of Wacker Silicones business division, said: "The challenge facing our customers is their need to strengthen and expand their competitive edge through constant product and process innovation. That's why we're offering a great many different approaches at K 2007."

Wacker's new product lines will be launched with the slogan "Power by Performance".
