Second union declares pay row with Angloplat 9th August 2004

The pay row at Anglo Platinum (Angloplat) has deepened as a second trade union rejected the company's 4.7 per cent wage offer.

Trade union Solidarity, which is calling for a 15 per cent increase, joined the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in declaring a wage dispute with Angloplat.

The union is also asking for a 10 per cent increase on fringe benefits and subsidies, improved shift allowances and pay parity for workers performing the same job.

Angloplat must now engage in talks with the trade unions within seven days of the dispute having been declared in an attempt to resolve the issue.

The dispute will then be referred to the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) if the fresh talks fail.
