Samsung's ‘next gen’ LCD TV spurs market 6th January 2006
The thriving nature of the LCD TV market has again been indicated by the latest advancement, a new production line to manufacture 52-inch TVs for Samsung.
Samsung is bidding to keep ahead of its competitors with this new line, known as eighth generation, which it says will be produced at a rate up to 50 per cent stronger than its current seventh-generation factories in Tangjong, South Choongchung province.
Samsung had already upped the production volume of its seventh-generation line from 75,000 to 120,000, six months ahead of schedule.
"Japan’s Sharp is going to build their eighth-generation line soon for mass production next year, so we are also planning to go to the eighth generation soon," said Lee Sang-wan, the chief of Samsung’s LCD department, the Korea Times reports.
The LCD market is predicted to undergo further steady growth over the near future, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.2 per cent expected over the next four years, according to iSuppli.
It also anticipated that LCD TVs will win the battle for market for market domination with plasma display TVs, thanks to the capability of LCD producers to cut costs.
