Queen's Diamond Jubilee hallmark launched 11th July 2011
Key members of the jewellery and precious metals industries have celebrated the launch of a commemorative hallmark for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year.
The hallmark was unveiled at an event at Goldsmiths Hall, which was hosted by the Goldsmiths' Company and the four UK Assay Offices: London, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Sheffield.
Princess Michael of Kent was in attendance to see the first Jubilee marks being formally struck.
The commemorative hallmark, which features a young Queen Elizabeth wearing an oversized crown, can be added to platinum, palladium, gold and silver.
It will be marked on items from now until 2012, in addition to the town mark, fineness mark and sponsor's mark, which remain compulsory.
The event also saw experts from Goldsmith's London Assay Office give demonstrations of marking items, including how laser technology can be used on more delicate pieces.
Meanwhile, there were also pieces of contemporary jewellery, traditional silverware and enamelled and silver pieces on display.
