Quantum supplies next-gen hydrogen technology 15th August 2006
Powertrain engineering firm Quantum Fuel Systems has announced that it has supplied an as-yet-unnamed fuel cell bus manufacturer with its next generation hydrogen storage technology.
Fuel cell technology utilises a platinum or pgm catalyst to produce power from the hydrogen fuel.
Hydrogen-powered vehicles produce zero CO2 emissions, the only bi-product of the process being water.
And Quantum's light-weight type IV storage containers, which offer cutting edge cost and design benefits, will be used in buses due to operate on public routes.
Discussing the deal, Alan Niedzwiecki, president and chief executive of Quantum, extolled the benefits of the latest compressed hydrogen technology.
"Quantum continues to evolve its technologies to meet the needs of the emerging hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle market," he said. "We believe that our next generation compressed hydrogen storage systems represent the state-of-the-art in design, manufacturing and performance.
"Quantum is committed to maintaining its hydrogen technology leadership and to supporting our customers' fuel cell vehicle commercialisation plans," he added.
Experts anticipate that fuel cell technology represents the future of the automotive market, the answer to escalating fuel prices and the means to curb climate change.
