Quantum delivers first five Priuses 27th January 2006
Quantum Fuel System Technologies Worldwide delivered the first five Toyota Priuses today to the city of Santa Ana in California.
The environmentally-friendly cars are the first five of a total of 30 that will be distributed to five different cities taking part in the Air Quality Management District programme (AQMD).
Quantum modified the internal hydrogen combustion engine to burn hydrogen gases and was taken on by the AQMD to help create a network of hydrogen vehicles and also hydrogen fuelling stations across the south coast of California.
Alan P Niedzwiecki, president and CEO of Quantum, said "The AQDM's vision to support the development and deployment of hydrogen technologies to achieve healthful air quality in Southern California is spot on."
The programme is aimed at helping the public transition to hydrogen fuel and educating them about the benefits through actual demonstrations.
California has seen a number of environmental reforms recently under governor Schwarzenegger including the Help California Breathe Easier campaign.
