Rock star Prince took his place in an American tradition this year adorned with platinum jewellery.

The singer was the star attraction at this year's Super Bowl half-time show and arrived at the pre-show press conference ready to show off his skills to the world, wearing a number of platinum items.

Prince caused something of a stir at the press conference, wearing an all-orange costume together with platinum jewellery, according to reporter Gregg Patton, of the Knoxville News Sentinel.

He refused to actually answer any questions at the press conference and instead launched into a number of songs. In agreeing to do the Super Bowl's half-time show, Prince had negotiated a deal with the NFL that said he would play three songs instead of answering the usual routine questions.

And in true rock star style, he gave the audience something to remember, kicking off with a cover of the classic Johnny B Goode, while showing off his platinum jewellery to the journalists.
