Premiership footballers splash out on platinum phones 4th January 2005

An exclusive range of mobile phones that use a platinum finish to provide the ultimate luxury are proving popular with Premiership footballers.

Entitled the Vertu Signature collection, the product has been developed by the Rivoli Group, a Dubai based importer and retail specialist for elite international watches and luxury brands and activities.

The collection leads the way in a new type of mobile communication, providing high performance, unique service and a jewellery-style approach to the emerging fashions of the mobile industry, which has already won over some of British football's biggest names.

Vertu's leading £20,000 phone now outranks the US 'Hummer' vehicle and Jacob & Co watches as the item soccer stars would most like to own.

The Sun reports that England skipper David Beckham has already purchased one of the phones, while midfield partner Frank Lampard has also snapped one up.

The London Selfridges store is one of four UK outlets selling the phones, which are said to contain enough precious metal for 20 wedding rings.

Features of the phone include a front-lit high-resolution display, and an improved antenna giving unparalleled sensitivity and a hi-fidelity audio system speaker.

Produced in association with prestigious manufacturers from around the world, the handmade handset has a sapphire crystal face and platinum bezels.
