Plug Power strengthens ties with Honda 21st March 2006
Plug Power, the manufacturer of commercial fuel cells, has strengthened its ties with the research and development arm of Japanese motor company, Honda.
Under this new agreement the two companies will work together on the second phase of a project designed to deliver a fuel cell-powered unit that could be used to deliver heat and power to a home or business.
The Home Energy Station would also be able to produce hydrogen for a fuel cell-powered vehicle.
Plug Power and Honda will work together on this and future research into the development of fuel cell technology with the aim of delivering products for commercial and private use.
"We are excited to announce the completion of these contracts and the achievement of our public milestone related to our continuing relationship with Honda," said Mark Sperry, chief marketing officer at Plug Power.
"We are honoured to be working with Honda on such important initiatives and look forward to the benefits of our ongoing and growing collaboration."
Fuel cell technology is expected to provide an alternative to traditional forms of energy across a number of different markets.
A hydrogen fuel cell is not only a renewable source, but is also less damaging to the environment.
