A limited edition run of platinum watches is marking the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight.

Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gargarin became the first man in space on April 12th 1961, and the occasion is being commemorated with a luxury timepiece from German master watchmaker Bernhard Lederer.

Named the Gagarin Tourbillon, it features a 60-second flying orbital tourbillon that rotates anticlockwise around the dial counter in 108 minutes - the amount of time the Russian spent in orbit around the Earth.

In other mechanical watches, a tourbillion stays still, marking this device out as unique.

The watch also boasts an integrated rotating magnifying glass, while looking through the loupe to the dial is designed to be reminiscent of peering out of the Vostok space capsule piloted by Gargarin.

The Gagarin Tourbillon, which was crafted in Switzerland, is a limited edition of 50 pieces in platinum.
