Platinum toy car 'worth seven million yen' showcased in Japan 20th May 2010
A unique platinum version of a popular toy car has been displayed for the first time in the Tohoku region of Japan.
The car, which was manufactured by Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelry KK and toy maker Tomy, was showcased at a store belonging to the jeweller in Sendai yesterday (19th May).
Valued at about seven million yen if made available for sale, the seven-centimetre, 210-gram design is based on the Nissan Fairlady Z 432 and was launched to mark the 40th anniversary of the sports car.
All the components of the model, including its doors and tyres, are made from platinum and reports suggest that it took a group of experienced craftsmen six months to create.
The Nissan Fairlady Z 432 was the first generation of sporty two-seater and two-plus-two coupes produced by the Japanese company between 1969 and 1978.
Featuring an L20A 2.0-litre straight-six SOHC engine capable of producing 150bhp, the car also offers rear wheel drive and comes with a five-speed manual transmission.
