Platinum was the star of the red carpet at the Golden Globes awards ceremony recently, with a host of top stars choosing the precious metal to give them some extra sparkle.

Platinum certainly has star quality and a number of top actresses were spotted wearing platinum necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Perhaps most notable, however, was the appearance of Maggie Gyllenhaal, as she stepped out for the first time in the spotlight since giving birth to her first child in October. Wearing a selection of vintage diamond and platinum jewellery, from Van Cleef and Arpels, the actress chose a magnificent pair of 1923 Pampilles platinum, sapphire and baguette-cut diamond earrings.

She was not the only star to arrive adorned in platinum, however, with a number of others choosing the precious metal. Former X-Files actress Gillian Anderson, who has won good reviews for her performance in The Last King of Scotland, wore a Harry Winston platinum bracelet and earrings.

Meanwhile Kathy Hilton, mother of socialite Paris, pushed the boat out even further, wearing a stunning platinum evening jacket, complete with 2,000 diamonds and 300 total carats, worth an estimated $1 million.
