Platinum set to encroach on gold market 8th April 2003

AngloGold has claimed that the well-funded marketing arm of the platinum sector will see it encroach on the gold market.

AngloGold's executive director marketing Mr Kelvin Williams said the industry did 'absolutely nothing like enough' on behalf of gold, particularly in comparison to 'rival' metals such as platinum.

Mr Williams told the Australian Gold Conference in Perth that platinum and diamond producers spent between three and 3.5 per cent per cent of their turnover on marketing.

However, according to Mr Williams, only 30 per cent of gold producers spent anything at all, whilst those that did committed just 0.5 per cent of turnover on marketing.

Mr Williams argued that the industry as a whole had to boost its profile or else it would see its market value diminish.
