Platinum production up by 30% at Sylvania Resources 28th July 2008

Sylvania Resources has reported a 30 per cent increase in the production of platinum group metals to 6,264 oz.

The figures, for the last quarter, show a 36 per cent increase in platinum production at the firm's Sylvania Dump Operations (SDO) to 5,753 oz.

The Millsell and Steelpoort plants both reached full platinum group metals production design capacity during the quarter.

It also said it was able to cut total cash operating costs to R2,591 per oz which was a result of higher production.

Terry McConnachie, Chief Executive Officer of the firm, told Mining Weekly that the firm was confident that it would meet its target of 70,000 oz of production by 2010.

In addition, construction at the Broken Hill extension was continuing with production increases scheduled to begin during the first quarter of 2009.

The chrome concentrator at Mooinooi will be expanded and upgraded and it is expected to be completed in line with the Lannex project.
