Face of Africa 2

A piece of platinum jewellery is up for grabs in the Nokia Face of Africa (NFOA) contest.

The winner of the NFOA beauty contest will receive a piece manufactured by Shimansky Jewellers and paid for by Anglo Platinum, in an attempt to highlight jewellery manufactured in South Africa.

The neck piece has been valued at $13,000. The winner of the contest will also receive $10,000 in cash, while the remaining finalists will all receive $13,000 each.

Micheal Joseph, Anglo Platinum's jewellery development manager, told Tonight that the contest aimed to raise the profile of local jewellery designers.

"To bring together young potential fashion models and young jewellery designers is the aim of Anglo Platinum's involvement with NFOA," he said.

Showcased designers include Johan Louw of Uwe KoetterJewellers, Kirtikumar Devjee of Kirti Jewellers and Wayne Smith of Bradley Manufacturing.

"Other selected pieces from the Shimansky PlataAfrica Collection 2004/2005 and Veronica Andersen Designs (Many Moods of Africa Collection) will be used during the Nokia Face of Africa fashion shoots, and final evening and on the master of ceremonies," the firm added.
