Platinum prepares for a big night at the Oscars 1st March 2006

Platinum Guild International (PGI) is set to showcase a host of dazzling piece for the show-stopping Oscars ceremony this year.

The organisation will run its traditional Red Carpet Platinum Jewellery Preview on March 2nd and 3rd in Los Angeles ahead of the Academy Awards, where stylists and stars run the rule over this season's most eye-catching jewellery.

With more than $12 million of platinum jewellery on show, the preview promises to offer a glimpse of what to expect on Hollywood's biggest night.

Jewellery houses including Alan Friedman, Jacob & Co, Neil Lane and Ricardo Basta will be featured, with celebrities including Charlize Theron and Kiera Knightly expected to flaunt their wares.

Oscar tipped Reese Witherspoon has also donned the platinum pieces in the past, with the preview likely to court this year's cream of the acting community.

This year it is expected that a diverse range of rich colours will characterise the pieces, while stylists say 'classic Hollywood glamour' is once again en vogue.

Pieces including J. Birnbach's platinum and 59-carat yellow Ascher-cut diamond necklace – valued at $800,000 – will be on the red carpet.

This year's Golden Globes have already seen a host of stars donning platinum, with the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Debra Messing wearing some of PGI's featured pieces.
