Wedding rings crafted by Los Angeles-based celebrity jeweller Neil Lane were exchanged by Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell as the pair were married in London over the weekend.

The bride was given a vintage-style diamond eternity band encrusted with five carats of square cut diamonds set in platinum.

Lane explained to People that Shevell's wedding band was meant to "complement her engagement ring, but not overshadow it", adding that shehad desired a "vintage feel".

He added: "Paul is an artist. When we worked on the engagement ring, he took it seriously and was into the stones, shapes and styles - like a kid in a candy store. I could see him imagining what it would look like on Nancy's finger."

McCartney, who was getting married for the third time, was seen with a plain gold wedding band.

The ceremony took place in front of a small group of family friends at the Old Marylebone Town Hall in central London, before heading back to the former Beatle's home for a star-studded reception.

Attendees included Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood, Kate Moss and a host of other celebrities.
