Platinum lends lustre to Oscar night 9th March 2004

Platinum shared the limelight with some of the world's biggest stars at this year's Oscars, with star name actresses queuing up to don the precious metal.

Winners including Charlize Theron and Renee Zellweger both showed off platinum accessories, respectively showcasing Chopard earrings and a stunning Cartier bracelet.

Elsewhere Catherine Zeta-Jones adopted a suitably glamorous look, flaunting Edwardian Platinum and diamond pendant earrings by Fred Leighton.

Meanwhile, the designer also provided for Julianne Moore, who selected some platinum and diamond briolette earrings, while Uma Thurman wore a platinum and diamond rose cut ring.

Presenters and other celebrity onlookers at the showbiz event were also attired in the precious metal.

Jada Pinket Smith, wore Harry Winston platinum and diamond studs-on-wires, while Julie Andrews, whose husband Blake Edwards collected a lifetime achievement award, showed off eternal platinum and diamond cluster earrings as well as a platinum and diamond pear-shaped pendant.

Indeed, renowned jewellery houses from across the world chose the Oscars to push some of their latest platinum designs, including Neil Lane and Erica Courtney.

Many jewellers use major awards such as the Academy Awards as a catwalk for their latest designs, with the styles on display typically filtering down to the high street.
