Jewellery is back in vogue among the US' wealthy, according to reports, with the vice-president of the CW network saying he plans to spend twice as much on gifts for his wife and friends as he did last year.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Justin Rosenblatt said he feels there is "a bit of a reprieve in the economy" - enough to finance part of an expected six per cent rise in jewellery sales across the industry, based on IBISWorld Inc research.

Meanwhile, New York's Tiffany's said it was "delighted" with customer reaction to its new yellow diamonds, as well as sales of its platinum, diamond and gold keys.

"People are feeling more secure that they are not falling into the abyss," jeweller Jim Rosenheim told Bloomberg.

He added: "Attitudinally, they are doing it more open-hearted, with their wallets more open."

This may be good news for six talented jewellers and design students who are on their way to a tour of lectures and workshops in Japan courtesy of Anglo Platinum, Mining Weekly reports.
