Platinum jewellery season approaches in Asia 6th September 2006

As autumn approaches experts are predicting an increase in platinum demand as the traditional holiday season comes to China and Japan.

Analysts have already stated that jewellery makers in the region have begun upping their orders of platinum in readiness for an expected boost in sales.

Daiichi Commodities precious metals analyst, Yukuji Sonoda, told Mining Weekly that the demand for platinum has begun to grow among jewellers in China and Japan and the increased demand is to be expected throughout the holiday period.

China is the world's largest seller of platinum jewellery and demand for the metal has surged in recent years. October is always a prosperous time for the country's jewellers as items are traditionally bought to celebrate the National Day holiday and the Moon Cake Festival.

Demand for platinum jewellery across the world has grown substantially in recent years and as such the vast majority of jewellers are now stocking platinum items alongside gold and silver pieces.
