Platinum engravings put shine on MP3 28th October 2005
A new MP3 player is to be launched using platinum to attract the most fashion-conscious of music lovers.
The Douglas J Presidential MP3 player will be debuted next month, just in time for Christmas, and will feature made-to-order casing, allowing discerning consumers to choose between white and yellow gold, with their own choice of platinum engravings.
Anyone wanting to take a sneak peak at the product before it is officially launched will find themselves having to spend £50 at its website to see the MP3 player's innovative look, as the company behind the project looks to maintain top security ahead of the launch.
Costing around £25,000, the product is the latest in a line of high-end consumer goods using platinum to attract a very particular kind of customer.
Mobile phone producer Nokia has recently unveiled the latest models in its Vertu range, which offers handsets made in a number of precious metals, including platinum and are created by workers who have learned their trade from some of the world's finest craftsmen.
Meanwhile, platinum is also booming in the jewellery market, helped by the number of top celebrities who are regularly spotted wearing the precious metal.
