An innovative design of a platinum ring has won its creator a major award in the jewellery industry.

The creation of a complex diamond and platinum ring by Ian Read has won the setter a Gold Award and a Special Council Award at the 2007 Goldsmiths' Craft & Design Council Competition, it has been revealed.

Mr Read's design was so intricate and impressive that it scooped the awards at the prestigious event, which this year an impressive array of talent on show.

The awards are designed to promote excellence in the British jewellery industry and anyone involved in the UK silversmithing, jewellery and the allied crafts sector is entitled to enter.
