Platinum compound delivers strong results in treating lung cancer 14th August 2003

Franco-American drug maker Aventis has today (August 14th) announced that studies have confirmed that its new platinum compound-based drug has delivered significantly improved results in battling lung cancer.

The scientific firm said that recent studies showed its Taxotere drug was beneficial as part of initial chemotherapy to fight non-small cell lung cancer.

Citing a 'French Phase II study' Aventis said it had seen a doubling in the three-year survival rate when Taxotere was administered with chemotherapy agent cisplatin.

According to reports on Reuters another study showed elderly patients with advanced non-small lung cancer who received Taxotere with a platinum compound had a markedly improved median survival compared to a combined dose of vinorelbine and cisplatin.
The studies were presented at the 10th World Lung Conference in Vancouver, Canada.
