Platinum brooch to prove big attraction 27th July 2005

Cohasset Jewellers' 22nd annual Estate Jewellery Sale, to be held on August 4th-5th in its Massachusetts store, will have massive pulling power with the announcement that a major platinum piece will be on display.

A stunning brooch, crafted in 1910 and featuring 105 small diamonds embedded in a gold base with a platinum façade, will form the centrepiece of the event.

The piece, with a carefully moulded and contoured platinum façade so that it sparkles from every angle, once belonged to American icon Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, widow of the assassinated President John F Kennedy and fashion idol for a generation of American women.

And the platinum piece will not only be attracting interest because of its rich history, as it is also a relatively rare brooch due to its age.

Many of the techniques used at the time of the creation of the "Jackie O" brooch are no longer used today, meaning that it is a piece of great importance in the jewellery world quite apart from its links with one of the most powerful women in American history.
