Platinum bridal jewellery sales soar in China 24th October 2007
Demand for platinum bridal jewellery is on the increase in China, it has been reported.
CBS News reports that the number of people tying the knot with a platinum wedding ring has grown in China in recent times and the precious metal is expected to continue to grow in popularity.
Ge Ning, the editor of China's Modern Bride magazine, told CBS that the demand for platinum jewellery among brides and grooms in the country has risen "dramatically" in recent months.
China is already the world's largest consumer of platinum jewellery and it seems that the impact of the bridal market is set to ensure the country keeps that position.
As China opens its doors more and more to Western culture and ideas, many more Chinese people are beginning to see the number of top celebrities choosing platinum jewellery, which is also helping to fuel the demand for the metal.
Also as the country becomes richer, so weddings are becoming a bigger and more lavish event, with platinum jewellery one example of this change in culture.
