A platinum and diamond necklace created in honour of two-time Oscar winning actress Meryl Streep is to be auctioned online to raise money for charity.

Proceeds from the sale of the necklace, which has been created by Black Starr & Frost, will go to the human rights organisation Equality Now, of which Ms Streep is a patron.

Fashioned from platinum and featuring graduated round brilliant-cut diamonds which weigh 2.35 carats in total and have been verified as conflict-free, the necklace will be offered to bidders on the 21st of May by Heritage Auctions as part of the company's Spring Signature Auction of Fine Jewellery and Timepieces.

Jill Burgum, Director of Jewellery Auctions for Heritage said: "Signed Black, Starr & Frost, it [the necklace] has a retail value of $25,000, but we’re sure that the association with both Ms Streep and Equality Now will raise its final value considerably."

Equality Now specialises particularly in campaigning for greater human rights for women worldwide and has been involved in attempts to extend the franchise to women in Arab countries.

Meryl Streep has been nominated for Academy awards more times than any other actress, with her performances in The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs Kramer and Woody Allen's Manhattan garnering particular acclaim.
