PEM fuel cell motorbike takes award 7th July 2006
The world's first motorbike built to run on a fuel cell has been named the winner of a prestigious product design award.
Designed by Seymourpowell, the hydrogen fuel cell motorbike was created by Intelligent Energy and has been called ENV, website EV World reports.
The innovative design was recognised with the Gold Award at the IDEA Awards, which are presented by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
Utilising a detachable core, the ENV can hit speeds of 80km/h and only needs refuelling every four hours.
It is also virtually silent and releases only water vapour as emissions, which is significant in the drive for preventing climate change.
Other winners in the transportation category of the awards were the Challenger 180 sport boat, which took the silver prize, and an unmanned helicopter device called a Camcopter, which took bronze.
